Context

HandyBot is a VR-Game where you play as a Robot that has no hands! You will have to look around the level to find different hands that will give you special powers, such as a hand that shoots it's finger like a gun, a hand that can shoot out a Camera or a Hand that makes a Quack noise!

This game was made in a group of 4 Students and developed in the BTS Game Programming and Game Design as a 4th Semester Project. The only requirement of the Project was Virtual Reality.

My Involvement

This game was made in Unity, using the VRTK Framework. I was the AI Programmer and Sound Designer/Programmer.

Learning Outcomes

In this game I heavily used Gizmos in Unity and Editor Programming. I did this so the designers could tweak the Enemy AI that I was programming as they saw fit, and that they would get feedback about their settings with in-editor visuals.

Challenges

The main challenge in this game was all the challenges that come with making a VR Game. At the beginning we had an idea to have portals in our game, but it turened out that having fully interactable portals in a VR Game is a very daunting task. There were also some load and FPS issues. Which I fixed by disabling and unloading assets that were not used depending on where the player currently is in the level.

The AI proved to be challenging to get working right. Tweaking the enemies right so that the animations play properly and the states work as intended was a little tricky.
